Interpreting in Substance Use and Mental Health, May 20, 2021 6-8pm on Zoom
The workshop be provided by Denise Johnson who is Deaf and in her Native American Sign Language (ASL). She has a professional and personal journey working in the substance use disorder and mental health field. The presenter will focus and explain the vocabularies in substance use and mental health signs for Interpreters to learn the 12 Steps & Tradition of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Translations from English to ASL and what to expect when communicating with a person who Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing is receiving services for substance use or/and mental health settings.
Educational Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to describe Substance Use and Mental Health vocabularies to apply them to their work. 2. Participants will be able to describe the 12 Steps & Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Translations. 3. Participants will be able to identify the expectations of working in the Substance Use Disorder/Mental Health fields.
